Group Therapy for Youth (11-18)

These group therapy programs are to help children/adolescents cope with their anxiety issues, such as:

  • General anxiety and excessive fear in new situations.
  • Social anxiety and inability to function well in social situations.
  • Specific fears and phobias, such as fear of insects, weather events, etc.
  • Performance anxiety where they experience greater than usual fear of exams, sports, and presentations, causing them to perform poorly or refuse to do well.
  • Physical symptoms such as chronic headaches, stomach pains, etc. as individuals with anxiety's bodies sometimes respond to their fears. Anxiety can be genetic and individuals with anxiety may continue to avoid different situations even as they get older.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a highly effective, evidence-based approach that helps teens manage their fears by reshaping their thoughts about anxiety-provoking situations and adopting calming behaviours. This therapy equips them with practical strategies to change negative thinking patterns and respond to anxiety in a healthy and appropriate way.

Parent- Teenager Consultations:

The first interview is a family consultation for parents and their teenager. This is done to understand your child's needs, evaluate whether the group therapy sessions are a good fit, and explain how the sessions and CBT work.

Once your child has been accepted to the group therapy program, they will participate in seven group sessions, along with two individual family consultation sessions.

During the family consultation sessions, we will discuss your child or adolescent’s progress, provide support strategies, and offer parenting guidance.
